Lecture by Prof. Dr. Seth J. Schwartz: Studying Crisis Migration: An International Perspective

Seth Schwartz

The Institute of Educational Sciences of the University of Basel invites doctoral students and affiliated researchers to a lecture by the renowned Prof. Dr. Seth J. Schwartz on "Studying Crisis Migration: An International Perspective":

Crisis migration – the mass relocation of individuals and families following major natural or human disasters – has increased exponentially during the 21st century. Thousands or millions of Iraqis, Syrians, Venezuelans, Puerto Ricans, Ukrainians, and Afghanis have been displaced over the last 20 years. Crisis migrants arrive in their new homelands with very different family, mental health, housing, employment, and other needs than other types of migrants do. I will present a summary of our work with Puerto Rican, Venezuelan, and Ukrainian crisis migrants in the United States and elsewhere since 2017.”
